The once-mighty Chennai Super Kings, symbolized by their regal lion emblem, are starting to show signs of fatigue. The lion looks tired—its mane disheveled, limbs heavy, and its aura of dominance fading. Once feared in the IPL jungle, this legendary predator is now the hunted. Teams are circling, sensing vulnerability. This match saw a powerful and composed display from the Kolkata Knight Riders, who showed no mercy. Like true champions, they recognized CSK’s struggles and struck decisively. That’s enough with the animal metaphors—time to wrap up. Signing off, this is Saurabh Shankar, alongside Akshay Maanay, Siva, and Harish.
Sunil Narine:
Was this the perfect match?
“Almost—next time I’ll try to hold onto my catches too,” he joked, referring to a dropped chance.
On strategy and data:
“I focus on my strengths and try to execute what I know. I don’t really dive deep into batter stats. It’s about reading the game, especially during the powerplay, and adjusting on the fly.”
On his batting approach:
“It’s simple—just go hard and give the team a strong start. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.”
On adapting across leagues:
“You get used to it. You adapt quickly and try to settle into the rhythm of each game.”
Ajinkya Rahane:
On team strategy:
“We had our plans in place. I’ve played here for the past couple of years, as have Moeen and DJ. We know how this pitch behaves. Credit to the spinners today—they really nailed the execution.”
On Moeen’s inclusion:
“In hindsight, it turned out to be a great call. The surface seemed like it could support a score of around 170, but the bowlers did a fantastic job.”
On Moeen, Narine, and Varun:
“Sunny had a tough last match, but he bounced back strongly. Same with Vaibhav and Harshit. It was a complete bowling performance.”
On his batting form:
“I’m enjoying it. I’ve worked hard the last couple of years. Just trying to stay in the moment and keep things simple.”
Was NRR on the radar?
“Not at first, but once we got a strong start, we thought—hey, maybe we can finish this early and help our net run rate.”
On the season ahead:
“Sometimes you play well and still lose—like we did by 4 runs last game. It’s about staying positive and building momentum. We don’t want a win-loss rollercoaster.” Match-25|CSK VS KKR|KKR WON THE MATCH|2025
Moeen Ali:
“It was nice bowling today. Having two left-handers in helped my cause. My aim is to keep things tight and hopefully pick up a couple of wickets. Today I got one. That stop by Rinku at the boundary gave me a real confidence boost.
I try not to rush my deliveries—give the ball some air, let it spin or skid depending on the surface. You don’t have to spin every delivery—just enough to plant a seed of doubt in the batter’s mind.
I’ve learned a lot from Narine and Varun. They’re world-class. I try to contribute early so they can come in and work their magic later.”
MS Dhoni:
“It’s been a string of tough nights for us. But challenges are part of the game. We didn’t put up enough runs today, plain and simple.
In past games, we’ve seen the pitch behave differently in each innings. Today, it was slower in the first innings.
Losing wickets consistently builds pressure especially against quality spin. We just couldn’t stitch together partnerships. A little more application, a few more stands, and we’d have been better off.
On the slow start in the powerplay:
“It’s all about reading conditions. We’ve done well in patches. Our openers play proper cricket shots—they don’t just slog. It’s important not to panic when the scoreboard looks rough. You can’t go for 60 in the powerplay with this lineup.
We need to build partnerships and then look to accelerate. If wickets fall, the middle order has to adapt and take on a different role. The slog overs might have to wait a bit longer.”
