Player of the Match – Aiden Markram
Markram looked in sublime touch.
“It’s definitely flowing,” he said about his batting. “I’ve had to adjust a little with the new role at the top of the order. The schedule’s tight, we’re playing a lot, but sticking to plans is key. Early in the tournament, I felt like I needed to change my game a bit, but I’m back to trusting my instincts now. The pitch was a bit slow in the first innings under the sun but eased out under lights. Toss worked in our favor today.”
Rishabh Pant (LSG Captain)
Pant was all smiles after the win.
“Super happy. We’re keeping things simple and backing ourselves one game at a time. The plan in the death overs was to go with yorkers and slower ones — the bowlers executed that beautifully. We didn’t start well with the ball, but the comeback was fantastic. Personally, I’m feeling better each game — time in the middle is helping. And yeah, we’re just thrilled to have Nicholas Pooran on our side. The way he’s striking the ball is unreal — you definitely want him on your team, not playing against you!”
Nicholas Pooran
Pooran was all class — and a bit cheeky.
“It’s not about the hat or the glory, it’s about the win. The wicket was a dream for batting. We didn’t need to say much in the dressing room — we knew we had depth and form. The partnership with Aiden was crucial. As for my hitting, even I surprise myself sometimes. It’s all about finding the middle of the bat and adjusting the swing. Can’t give away all the secrets though — gotta keep the bowlers guessing! Taking on Sai Kishore was a calculated risk — big side of the ground, could’ve gone either way, but it worked today.”
Shubman Gill (GT Captain)
Gill reflected on what could’ve been.
“It wasn’t the easiest wicket early on. We talked about one set batter needing to bat deep — 17-18 overs — if we wanted to post 200-plus. But we lost wickets too regularly. The ball was sticking a bit, and we didn’t rotate strike well enough in the middle overs. Later, there was a bit of dew, and the ball came on better than we thought. In the final timeout, we reminded ourselves — even if they need 30 off 30, take it deep. And we almost did.”
Cricbuzz Live Summary – LSG vs GT, IPL 2025
Samad and Badoni showed great composure under pressure. They didn’t panic with dot balls and calmly finished the job. This game could’ve gone down to the wire had it not been for Pooran’s explosive innings. With Mitch Marsh missing, Pant stepped up at the top and played his part, but it was Markram who dismantled the new ball attack.
GT had some hope thanks to Prasidh Krishna’s spells — Pooran respected him but unleashed fury on the rest of the bowling. A 58-run stand in quick time pushed LSG firmly ahead. GT picked up a few wickets late, but the game was already sealed.
