PLAYERS OF THE MATCH:

Last season, SRH had dominated LSG at home with outstanding performances from Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head. This time, however, LSG gave the hosts a taste of their own medicine with a blistering batting display led by Nicholas Pooran and Mitchell Marsh. SRH had been talking about breaking the 300-run mark at home, but they couldn’t even surpass 200 in this match. The saying “You live by the sword, you die by the sword” seems fitting here. Given the dynamic nature of T20 cricket, a more adaptable approach is essential, and sometimes it’s important to rein in aggressive tactics, especially when the game is slipping away. Tomorrow, the IPL moves back to Chennai, which, so far, is the only venue this season where both bat and ball have had an even contest. Tight contests are always thrilling to watch, and hopefully, the upcoming game between CSK and RCB will live up to expectations. We hope you enjoyed the coverage. This is Abhinav Guha signing off, alongside Nikhil Jadhav, Venky, and Mukesh. Until next time, goodbye and take care!  Match-7|SRH VS LSG|LSG Won the Match

Shardul Thakur | Player of the Match:

(On whether he thought he’d be playing in the IPL after not being picked in the auction) “Honestly, I didn’t think so, but I had made backup plans. I considered playing county cricket if I wasn’t picked. Zaheer Khan called me while I was playing Ranji Trophy and told me there was a chance I might be called in as a replacement, so I kept myself ready. Life has its ups and downs, but I’ve always backed my skills. I knew Head and Abhishek like to take their chances, so I decided to take mine as well. The new ball is where you can take wickets when it’s swinging, and I did that tonight. Bowlers get very little in high-scoring games, and with the new impact sub rule, it’s unfair if teams score 240-250 runs.”  Match-7|SRH VS LSG|LSG Won the Match

Rishabh Pant:

“Big relief, but as a team, we focus on the process. It’s important not to get too high after a win or too low after a loss. We can’t focus on things we can’t control, and my mentor always told me to focus on the controllables, which is what I did. Great to see Prince bowl well, and Shardul was fantastic. (On Pooran batting at No. 3) We just want to give him the freedom to play his game. He’s been in great form, and when someone’s doing well, we want to let them take charge. The team is coming together nicely; we haven’t played our best cricket yet, but it’s good to get a win.”  Match-7|SRH VS LSG|LSG Won the Match

Nicholas Pooran:

(On the Orange Cap) “It’s a bit big, but it feels great. I don’t aim to hit sixes, just focus on getting into good positions and timing the ball. When the matchup is right, I try to execute my skills. The wicket was beautiful today. Hyderabad is known for big scores, and we were fortunate to win the toss. If you don’t lose wickets in the powerplay, you can go hard. I’ve never worked on my bat speed; I’m just blessed with talent. It’s a long tournament, and it’s great to see Marshy showing his class. The left-right combination worked well today, building a partnership and focusing on the matchup.”  Match-7|SRH VS LSG|LSG Won the Match

Pat Cummins:
“It was a different wicket the other day, but we still had to score quickly. They batted really well, though. The wicket here was the second-best in the world; it gripped a little but was still a good one. Every game is a fresh start, and their bowlers executed their plans well. Getting to 190 was a good effort. You need someone to bat through the innings, like Ishan Kishan did the other day, but they never let us off the hook. We have eight batters, so it’s about making an impact when we get the chance. It’s a long competition, and we’ll get another chance soon, so we need to move on quickly.”

Match Summary:
At 23:03 local time (17:33 GMT, 23:03 IST), LSG secured their first win of the season with a blazing run-chase. SRH’s decision to bat first, despite scoring a massive 286 in their previous match against RR, backfired as LSG executed their plans flawlessly. Though Head provided a breezy cameo and the SRH middle-order had some decent contributions, they lacked a big score. LSG’s field placements were spot on, and their bowlers stuck to the plan, restricting SRH to a sub-par total on an excellent batting surface.

In response, LSG lost Markram early, but Pooran came out with intent, smashing the bowlers all over the ground. Marsh joined in, and the two formed a 116-run partnership off just 43 balls, nearly sealing the game. Both Pooran and Marsh scored fifties in quick succession, and though they fell soon after, the damage was already done. SRH lost a couple of wickets in their bid to finish the game quickly, but the match was essentially decided. Samad played a quickfire cameo to guide LSG home with 23 balls to spare.
