The IPL season may be only two days old, but the action is already heating up, with plenty more to come. Up next, the Delhi Capitals will face the Lucknow Super Giants in Vizag, known as the “City of Destiny.” It promises to be a cracking contest, so stay tuned for all the latest cricket updates right here.

That’s it from us for now. On behalf of Raju Peethala, Akshay Maanay, Ramakrishnan MS, and our hardworking scoring duo, Mukesh and Harish, we bid you goodbye. Hope you all had a fantastic weekend—time to put your feet up and relax!

A clinical win for CSK to kick off their campaign at home:

Their new skipper, Ruturaj Gaikwad, smashed the fastest IPL fifty by a CSK captain, while Noor Ahmad’s brilliant four-wicket haul made life difficult for the Mumbai Indians. MS Dhoni, as sharp as ever behind the stumps, pulled off a spectacular stumping and even chipped in with a two-ball unbeaten cameo, much to the delight of the Chepauk faithful. To top it off, the sight of Dhoni giving IPL debutant Vignesh Puthur from Kerala a pat on the shoulder was one of the most heartwarming moments of the night.

For Mumbai Indians, though, it was the same old story. Their opening game curse continues—they’ve now lost their first match of the season for the 13th consecutive time. The last time MI won their season opener was way back in 2012. Adding to their woes, CSK has now defeated MI in six of their last seven meetings since the second half of IPL 2021.

Player of the Match – Noor Ahmad:

“It feels special to be playing in the IPL. I’m really happy to contribute to the team’s success. The plan was to keep it simple and land the ball in the right areas. Getting Surya’s wicket was particularly memorable, and MSD’s stumping was just unbelievable. Having Mahi bhai behind the stumps is a huge support for me.”

CSK skipper – Ruturaj Gaikwad:

“Happy to start with a win. We could have been a bit more clinical, but that’s how the game goes. Moving to No. 3 was a team decision for better balance, and I’m comfortable with it. The spinners were spot on. Right after the auction, we were excited about seeing all three spinners bowl in tandem at Chepauk. Noor is our X factor, and Khaleel’s experience adds to our strength. Dhoni is looking fitter this season and still as sharp as ever.”

MI captain – Suryakumar Yadav:

“We were probably 15-20 runs short, but the boys fought hard. That’s what MI is known for—backing young players. Vignesh is a product of the hard work our scouts put in for 10 months. I saved one of his overs for the death, but the game was slipping away, so I used him in the 18th. The pitch didn’t have dew but was a bit sticky. Credit to Ruturaj for the way he batted—it took the game away from us. It’s a long tournament, and we’ll come back stronger.”

Rachin Ravindra:

“MI bowled well in the middle, kept it tight, and made things tricky for us. But the power hitters at the backend made the difference. The pitch was a bit unpredictable—not much turn but sticky in nature. Rutu was brilliant, striking at 200 with such ease. Personally, it felt good to be back after my injury during the tri-series in Pakistan. I’m grateful to the New Zealand medical staff for their support.”

Final thoughts:

Noor Ahmad’s brilliant spell with the ball set the foundation, while Rachin Ravindra’s composed innings guided CSK home. Despite a few cameos from both sides, the match was largely one-sided. CSK made the most of the powerplay, scoring 74/1 in just seven overs, with Gaikwad’s quickfire 50 doing most of the damage. Even though debutant Vignesh Puthur gave MI a glimmer of hope with three wickets in his first three overs, CSK’s early blitz meant the required run rate was never an issue.
