PLAYER OF THE MATCH|ISHAN KISHAN:

(On being part of SRH first game) To be very honest, the nervousness was there. I won’t deny that. But looking through the squad and looking through the team, particularly Pat and the coach — they gave a lot of confidence ahead of the game. So it has a lot of calmness and composure about the environment, so you know you just have to walk in there and you just have to have faith in yourself like is supposed to be done at that point of time. I simply spent time in the middle. I was getting a lot of time in between, was practising really hard, worked on my batting also. All in all, the preparation was quite good. I am feeling confident. There’s a sort of statement to be found there in as Abhishek Sharma and Head go in and play that sort of a Game.

In the end, you’re No. 3, and you steal the confidence. You just go in there and you’ve got enough time to hit a couple of balls because Head’s not going to stop, Abhishek’s never going to stop. Either you are standing way too early in the innings, or you are standing at a time where already there are too many runs on the board. It is very hard to get that kind of a total game in game out. And Pat, you’re so right, he knows what is on the table for the team and the coach is saying the same thing — ‘you have to go in and enjoy whatever your game-play is. You have to adjust your plans, just play your game and don’t be in a fear of getting out.

PAT CUMMINS | SRH CAPTAIN:

I don’t want to be bowling to our boys.” Unbelievable. That was scary. You know it is going to be hard (for the bowlers) but when you have a score like that, one over can really win you the game for a bowling side. Definitely, you go for runs but then it is backing up that next over you get a fresh over there and you make a difference. We have managed to keep the crux of the side intact. We’ve lost a few guys but really pleased with who we replaced them with, Ishan was phenomenal today. Just trying to play without constraint and keep having fun.” “Our coaches have been great, going 3-4 weeks without being here  the preparation is unbelievable.

Harshal Patel:

Quite happy with this. I thought we pretty much controlled the game at the top end apart from a few overs. All we practiced in the bowlers meeting, we managed to execute. Comes in handy when you have 290 on the board. The coaches are not big on talking, so the first chat was about being defensive and how to compliment the batting line-up.

It can be a thin line between defensive and more aggressive play depending on the context of the game. There’s going to be times when we need to go hard on the stumps, need to bowl conventional. But in 270-280, when you have that on the board, then our job becomes easier, as we just need to bowl defensive. No ground is easy for bowlers in the IPL and the batters mindset has changed too. So you’ve got to plan and execute well.  Match-2|SRH VS RR|SRH Won the Match.  Match-2|SRH VS RR|SRH Won the Match

RIYAN PARAG|RR CAPTAIN:

: It was hard, as I knew it would be. SRH played well but we could have done better execution wise. Will sit down and have a talk on what we could improve on. (On deciding to bowl) I think we made that decision collectively, it was the right decision but it was about execution. You’d care if it’s 280 on the board, at the toss 200 was all I expected but 220-240 would have been a good score to chase down.” Too many positives, the way Dhruv and Sanju played was brilliant. Then later Hettie and Shivam. Tushar bowled really well, Sandy paaji did well. Whatever happens, we take the learnings and then we move on.

In response, RR had to step out firing on all cylinders. Simarjeet Singh had Jaiswal and Parag out cheaply in his first over. Nitish Rana got out to his new ball partner Shami which made it three wickets down in the powerplay for the Royals. At this moment Dhruv Jurel joined RR’s Impact Player Sanju Samson. The duo fought well and stitched a brilliant hundred partnership with both scoring fifties. They were dismissed one after another, but Hetmyer and Shubham Dubey flexed their hitting muscles to lower the margin of defeat.  Match-2|SRH VS RR|SRH Won the Match.  Match-2|SRH VS RR|SRH Won the Match

SRH grab their opener win in some fashion. No surprise there with the bat. Abhishek Sharma took no time to settle in. His fellow opener and partner-in-crime – Travis Head – soon the moved the party along to make a quick-fire fifty. Ishan Kishan – making his SRH debut – another lefty and came in at three plated with the same tempo to score a splendid century. NKR and Klaasen also made useful contributions. The SRH top-volume hitters had a strike-rate were more than 200 and the home side went on to put the second highest IPL amount on the board — 286 — not a long way from 300!
