Gujarat Titans won the match by 8 wickets.

PLAYER OF THE MATCH:

RCB started their IPL 2025 campaign on a high note, securing a victory against the defending champions at Eden Gardens and finally breaking their losing streak at Chepauk. However, they once again fell short on their home turf, a pattern that has persisted over the years and remains a challenge if they aim to compete for the title. On the other hand, Gujarat Titans bounced back strongly after their opening loss, registering two commanding wins. Sai Sudharsan has been in excellent touch with the bat, Jos Buttler returned to form with a match-winning knock, and the bowling duo of Mohammed Siraj and R Sai Kishore has been exceptional.  Match-14|RCB VS GT |GT Won The Match |2025

Up next, last season’s finalists—KKR and SRH—are set to face off, promising an exciting contest.

Post-Match Interviews:

Mohammed Siraj (Player of the Match): “It was an emotional moment for me, having spent seven years with RCB before switching to Gujarat Titans. However, once I had the ball in my hand, I was focused. I’m a big fan of Cristiano Ronaldo, and that’s why I celebrated the way I did. During my time off, I worked on my fitness and corrected a few areas in my game. After joining GT, I had discussions with Ashish Nehra, who encouraged me to enjoy my bowling, while Ishant Sharma guided me on my line and length. My approach is simple—believe in yourself, and then the pitch conditions don’t matter.”

Shubman Gill (GT Captain):

“This ground offers different challenges—you can score 250 runs here, but it can also be tricky for batters early on. Our bowlers did well to restrict RCB to 170, and we knew that taking early wickets would put us in control. We batted professionally, adapting to the conditions, and that made the difference. Cricket is about taking your chances, and we made sure to capitalize on ours.” Match-14|RCB VS GT |GT Won The Match |2025

Jos Buttler:

“I really enjoyed batting today. The bowlers did a fantastic job, but our fielding could have been sharper. I was personally disappointed with my dropped catch—it reminded me of Herschelle Gibbs’ famous moment where he celebrated too early. Salty (Phil Salt) is a dangerous batter, and I should have taken that catch cleanly. Early on, the new ball was moving a bit, so full credit to our openers for handling that period well. We have a strong squad with quality batters and explosive hitters, and we’re feeling confident.”  Match-14|RCB VS GT |GT Won The Match |2025

Rajat Patidar (RCB Captain):

“We were aiming for around 190 after the powerplay, but losing early wickets cost us. We had a good approach, but three wickets in the powerplay were one too many. The bowlers did a commendable job in trying to defend the total, taking the game into the 18th over. Jitesh Sharma, Liam Livingstone, and Tim David played some positive knocks, which is a big takeaway for us. Our batting lineup is showing intent, and we believe that with better execution, we will bounce back.” Match-14|RCB VS GT |GT Won The Match |2025

Match Summary:

This game was a perfect example of how teams need to adapt to different conditions in the IPL. Gujarat Titans read the pitch well and played accordingly. The new ball was the toughest to negotiate, and the openers—Gill and Sudharsan—took minimal risks in the early overs. The first wicket fell in the fifth over, but by then, GT had built a solid base. Sudharsan and Buttler ensured the required run rate never spiraled out of control, finding boundaries consistently after the powerplay. Josh Hazlewood broke their 75-run stand, but that was just a minor hiccup in an otherwise smooth chase. Buttler and Sherfane Rutherford comfortably took GT over the line.

For RCB, their batting fell short of expectations, and their bowlers couldn’t apply enough pressure during the middle overs. It was their first home game of the season, but unfortunately, it ended in a defeat. Match-14|RCB VS GT |GT Won The Match |2025
